Celebrating IPIC’s Volunteer Advocates
Shaping the Future in IP: A snapshot of IPIC's volunteer work
IPIC couldn’t do what we do without the support of our volunteers and committee members. The heart of our organization, they play a vital role in advancing our mission, shaping policies, and fostering a vibrant IP community. Their work is building a stronger IP landscape, and we are grateful for the time, insight and energy our volunteers bring. Thank you for being such an essential part of IPIC!
Education
From selecting themes to planning sessions and moderating discussions, the IPIC Conference Committee shapes every aspect of the Annual Conference, bringing top speakers and fresh ideas to the table. They have been hard at work planning an exciting program for the IPIC2025 Annual Meeting in Saskatoon SK, October 8 -10. Click here to save the date!
It's been another exciting and productive year for IPIC's Trademark Administrator Committee! The committee members hosted several engaging webinars covering topics like the international trademark process and recent changes to the way documents are apostilled. They also launched the Trademark Administration Community as a way for trademark administrators to connect, share updates, and get quick answers to their questions. They look forward to growing both the committee and the community in 2025!
Communications & Member Services
Committed to crystal-clear IP awareness, The Public Awareness Committee is all about making sure the public gets clear, reliable info about our IP systems. This year, they gave the “Meeting with an IP Professional” brochure a fresh, online-friendly makeover. Now, they’re working on a weekly Q&A series for IPIC’s new “Dear IP” series launching this fall and welcome input from other IPIC communities.
The Insurance Committee of IPIC is all about ensuring peace of mind for our members. They manage IPIC’s insurance program to make sure members get solid coverage at a competitive price. They’re also a go-to resource for insurance education, updates, and support. Last year, the committee successfully secured coverage for disciplinary proceedings in the IPIC Insurance Program, protection for members who’ve chosen to place their professional liability insurance through IPIC.
Government Relations
The Patent Committee keeps a close eye on patent laws and policies in Canada and globally. They recommend updates and share the latest news through IPIC’s IP Newsbreak and UnscrIPted blog. Some of their work this year includes consulting with CIPO on their Next Generation Patents update and preparing submissions for the Canada Gazette 1 consultation on changes to Patent Rules and ISED’s consultation on AI Compute.
