Designation

A Certified Canadian Patent Administrator (CCPA) or Certified Canadian Trademark Administrator (CCTA) demonstrates the competencies required to assist a patent agent, trademark agent or lawyer practicing in IP law. Duties cover a wide range of tasks related to the administration of patents or trademarks such as:

  • preparing patent or trademark applications;
  • paying government fees;
  • docketing deadlines;
  • assisting with the administration of contentious proceedings;
  • preparing correspondence with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office and
  • drafting letters to clients.

Used in email signatures and on LinkedIn, the official badges below signify a Certified Administrator!

Continuing Professional Development

In lieu of annual continuing education requirements in the early years of our program, to maintain the Certified Canadian Patent Administrator or Certified Canadian Trademark Administrator designation you must hold an IPIC membership in good standing in the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC). By doing so it will ensure you stay informed about our regular stream of IP related education and services.

Member Benefits for Certified Administrators

IPIC offers a wide range of benefits for its members, including preferential pricing for its courses and webinars, access to publications focusing on hot-button IP issues and networking opportunities. Certified Administrators will also have access to a social media kit announcing their designation, digital credential for your e-signature and the opportunity to have your name listed on the official list of Certified Canadian Patent Administrators or Certified Canadian Trademark Administrators (see below).
