Tim Lowman Elected IPIC's President and Chair of the Board for 2022-2023!
The Board of Directors of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) is pleased to announce the election of Tim Lowman as its new President and Chair of the Board for the 2022-2023 term, effective September 29th, 2022. Tim previously served as IPIC’s Vice-President from 2021-2022, Secretary from 2020-2021 and Treasurer from 2019-2020.
During his over 35 years with IPIC Tim has contributed his time and expertise to numerous IPIC Committees and Communities providing his insights on various areas of importance to the IP profession including serving on IPIC’s Continuing Professional Development Committee, Licensing Committee and as Chair and Board Liaison of IPIC's Insurance Committee since 1997.
The mandate of the Insurance Committee of the IPIC is threefold. First, it is to monitor the Errors & Omissions insurance coverage program offered to members to ensure the broadest coverage at the lowest cost. Second, the Committee, in association with the relevant insurance companies and brokers, provides information and education with respect to Errors & Omissions insurance issues. Third, the Committee oversees the IPIC's internal insurance coverage for its directors, officers, committee members and property.
Tim Lowman is head of the Aird & Berlis' Intellectual Property Group and a member of its Litigation & Dispute Resolution Group. He is known as a client-centric, forward-thinking, detail-oriented and personable lawyer. Clients and colleagues recommend him for his consistent excellence in the diverse areas in which he practices. He is a Certified Specialist in civil litigation as well as a registered Canadian Trademark Agent, a Certified Arbitrator and a Certified Licensing Professional.
Tim has more than 35 years of experience as counsel in a broad range of commercial and intellectual property litigation, including patent, trademark, copyright, professional errors and omissions, trade secrets, invention ownership, product liability and employment law claims.
Tim will be taking over for IPIC’s immediate Past President Louis-Pierre Gravelle. During the last year we made great strides in implementing and actioning IPIC’s Strategic Plan 2021-2023 and we look forward to continuing this success under Tim’s leadership and we wish him all the very best in his new role.
