Louis-Pierre Gravelle Elected IPIC's President and Chair of the Board for 2021-2022!
The Board of Directors of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) is pleased to announce the election of Louis-Pierre Gravelle as its new President and Chair of the Board for the 2021-2022 term, effective September 29th, 2021. Louis-Pierre previously served as IPIC’s Vice-President from 2020-2021, its Secretary from 2019-2020 and its Treasurer from 2018-2019.
During his over 20 years with IPIC Louis-Pierre has contributed his time and expertise to numerous IPIC Committees and Communities providing his insights on various areas of importance to the IP profession. These include IPIC’s Patent Committee, Internet and Technology Committee, Professional Regulation Committee, Licensing Committee, Intervention Committee, IP Trade Policy Committee, Information, Communications and Technology Committee, and the Industrial Design Committee. Louis-Pierre is also frequently invited to speak on various IP topics in both official languages for a variety of IP events and engagements held by our stakeholders and partners.
Louis-Pierre is currently a partner with Bereskin & Parr LLP located in Montreal, and a member of the Electrical & Computer Technology practice group. He is a recognized leading professional in the high-tech and artificial intelligence areas and his practice focuses on patent and technology law, particularly obtaining and leveraging intellectual property rights for startups, SMEs and large companies to support them in their commercial growth and business success. Louis-Pierre has counseled Canadian and international clients for over 25 years and prosecuted applications in the fields of artificial intelligence, telecommunication systems, wireless communication, controls systems, electronic circuits for various applications, digital signal processing, optics, robotics, power systems and power electronics, computer networks, integrated circuits, computer software, business methods, social networks and other technologies.
Louis-Pierre is a firm believer in giving back to the community and as such has vigorously promoted the importance of the protection, and respect, of intellectual property rights for businesses of all sizes. In addition to his involvement with the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) he also contributes his time to the Fédération internationale des conseils en propriété intellectuelle (FICPI).
Louis-Pierre will be taking over for IPIC’s immediate Past President Stephanie Chong. During the last year we made great strides in implementing and actioning IPIC’s new Strategic Plan 2021-2023 and we look forward to continuing this success under Louis-Pierre’s leadership and we wish him all the very best in his new role.
