IPIC Announces Paul V. Lomic as the Recipient of the Outstanding Contribution Award
IPIC’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Paul V. Lomic is this year's recipient of the Institute’s Outstanding Contribution Award. Paul received the award on September 30, 2022, for having gone above and beyond expectations of our volunteers at IPIC as past Chair of the Conference Committee formerly known as the Forum and Seminars Committee in 2018 and past Chair of the CPD Committee in 2017.
Always an active IPIC volunteer, Paul Lomic played a key role in IPIC’s education efforts as past Chair of the CPD Committee and past Chair of the Conference Committee. He stepped up to the plate to spearhead projects through his frequent contribution to the Continuing Professional Development Committee (2021), Litigation Committee (2021), Sole and Small Practice Community (2021), and Licensing Community (2021). Paul contributions to the IP profession in this regard are much appreciated. Paul Lomic is a Certified Specialist in Intellectual Property Law (Trademark) by the Law Society of Ontario. As an intellectual property lawyer and Registered Trademark Agent, Paul’s practice is focused on resolving intellectual property and commercial disputes, including matters involving trademarks, copyright, patents, social media/internet and confidential information.
It is an incredible and humbling honour to be recognized by IPIC for volunteerism. The award caught me by complete surprise as IPIC is such an amazing organization with so many outstanding volunteers. As a Registered Trademark Agent, Paul conducts opposition and cancellation proceedings and assists his clients with managing and protecting their Canadian and global trademark portfolios. Paul is a Fellow of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) and serves as a Council member for the Ontario Bar Association.
Paul’s enthusiasm for our profession and its people is contagious. Paul’s boundless energy and insight made him the natural choice as the inaugural chair of IPIC’s Continuing Professional Development Committee. He is a frequent contributor to legal education seminars and legal publications. Paul received his B.Sc. and M.Sc. from the University of Waterloo, his Ph.D. from the University of Toronto, and his LL.B. from Queen's University. Paul is the editor and an author of two books published by LexisNexis: Social Media and Internet Law - Forms and Precedents - 2nd Edition (2018) and Intellectual Property Litigation - Forms and Precedents (2016).
