CIPO Further Extends Deadlines to June 1st, 2020
IPIC leadership has been in regular conversations with CIPO to discuss the issue of designated dates and deadline extensions during this COVID-19 pandemic. This week, IPIC President Alain Leclerc and Executive Director Adam Kingsley met with CIPO CEO Johanne Bélisle and her senior management team to discuss the designated dates, among other issues related to managing through the economic shut down due to the pandemic. Increasingly as of late, IPIC has been communicating to CIPO the need for more predictability when it comes to the extensions.
Yesterday, CIPO announced a further extension to all deadlines, this time for the remainder of May. This means that the next due date for deadlines will be pushed until Monday, June 1st 2020.
There has been no indication given yet that this would be the final set of designated dates, as CIPO is monitoring Canadian and international government responses to guide their decision making, and does not yet feel confident that the situation warrants a return to normal practice.
