Alain Leclerc Elected as IPIC President 2019-2020
The Council of the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) is pleased to announce the election of Alain M. Leclerc as its new President, effective September 26th, 2019.
Since joining IPIC in 1992, Alain served as the chair of IPIC’s Patent Agent Examination Committee for numerous years and has held the roles of Treasurer, Secretary and Vice President on IPIC’s Council.
Alain is a partner and practice leader of Lavery Lawyers’ intellectual property group and member of the Board of Directors of the firm. He specializes in intellectual property with an emphasis on patents.
In addition to a busy patent prosecution practice for clients in Canada and abroad, Alain’s expertise is sought in the areas of intellectual property litigation, due diligence, strategy, portfolio value building and licensing. He is particularly active in patent litigation and has appeared before the Federal Court and the Supreme Court of Canada.
“I look forward to guiding IPIC’s activities throughout 2019-2020 by building on its ongoing goals relative to advocacy, professional development, outreach and awareness, and stewardship” said IPIC’s new President. “We will continue to engage with government and elected officials, courts and global IP groups to ensure that the interests and goals of the Canadian IP profession are considered in relevant legislation, regulation, policies, and international treaties.”
Alain holds a degree in chemical engineering from the University of Ottawa and is a lawyer called to the Bar in both Quebec and Ontario. He is also a registered patent agent in Canada and the United States, as well as a trademark agent in Canada.
