Activity Report of the IPIC/CIPO Medical Diagnostics Working Group
In the winter of 2018, IPIC proposed a working group to the Commissioner of Patents to discuss the issues regarding the statutory subject matter of medical diagnostic patent applications. CIPO accepted the proposal and the combined IPIC/CIPO working group met in September 2018 in Ottawa, in November 2018 in Toronto and in February 2019 via teleconference. The working group was composed of IPIC Past President Peter Wilcox (Partner, Belmore Neidrauer), IPIC Member Micheline Gravelle (Managing Partner, Bereskin & Parr), Neena Kushwaha (Acting Director, Biotechnology, CIPO), Jeremy McLean (Acting Program Manager, CIPO), Anne-Marie Monteith (Senior Director, CIPO) and Kathleen Murphy (Director, Biotechnology, CIPO; February only).
