The Roger T. Hughes Future Leader Award is presented to a young professional or future leader member of IPIC who has made significant contributions to an IPIC Committee, Community, or other substantial IPIC initiative over the past year. This individual will have demonstrated significant leadership, commitment, and dedication to increasing awareness of IPIC along with the value and future of the IP profession in Canada. IPIC’s Board of Directors is delighted to announce Jean Lee as the recipient of this year’s Roger T. Hughes Future Leader Award, presented on October 13, 2023.

IPIC’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Catherine (Cat) Lovrics is this year's recipient of the Institute’s Shelley Jones Outstanding Contribution Award. Cat received the award on October 13, 2023, for having gone above and beyond expectations of our volunteers at IPIC as Chair of the Copyright Committee, past Chair of the Copyright Policy Committee, as well as frequent contributor to the Internet Committee, Alternative Dispute Resolution Committee, and IP Trade Policy Committee, among other initiatives.

The Peter W. McBurney Memorial Award for Professional Excellence is given to an intellectual property (IP) professional in Canada; an IP Agent and/or Lawyer, and member of Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) who has demonstrated excellence in their practice during the past year in the successful prosecution of a landmark patent or trademark property, the prosecution or defense of a legal action where the result has a significant, positive effect on Canadian IP policy and/or who has made an extraordinary contribution to the IP profession.

The Roger T. Hughes Future Leader Award is given to an emerging leader/future leader and member of IPIC who has made significant contributions to an IPIC Committee, Community, or other substantial IPIC initiative during the past year. The individual will have demonstrated significant leadership, commitment, and dedication to increasing awareness of IPIC along with the value and future, of the IP profession in Canada.

The IPIC Outstanding Contribution Award aims to recognize an IPIC member who has made a significant contribution and impact to IPIC and/or to the IP profession as a result of their role as a volunteer of the Institute. These individuals have gone above and beyond to help IPIC and/or an IPIC Committee achieve its goal, therefore assisting IPIC achieve its strategic objectives.

The IPIC Member of Distinction Award aims to recognize IP professionals who have made a significant contribution to the Institute over at least 20 consecutive years. For those with more short-term involvement, the unique and impactful nature of the contribution must be emphasized.

Last week in Halifax IPIC was honoured with an Award of Distinction: Excellence from the Canadian Society of Association Executives (CSAE) for its ‘Your profession. Our purpose.’ membership campaign. IPIC’s 'Your profession. Our purpose’ campaign launched back in 2021 in line with the 2022 membership renewal cycle and highlighted all the many incredible benefits that an IPIC membership can provide to Intellectual Property (IP) professionals, and all those interested in IP in Canada and abroad.

The individual will have demonstrated significant leadership, commitment, and dedication to increasing awareness of IPIC and the IP profession in Canada. IPIC’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Leonora Hoicka is this year’s recipient of the Institute’s Member of Distinction Award. Leonora Hoicka received the award on September 30, 2022, for having made significant contributions to IPIC.

IPIC’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Paul V. Lomic is this year's recipient of the Institute’s Outstanding Contribution Award. Paul received the award on September 30, 2022, for having gone above and beyond expectations of our volunteers at IPIC as past Chair of the Conference Committee formerly known as the Forum and Seminars Committee in 2018 and past Chair of the CPD Committee in 2017.

The individual will have demonstrated significant leadership, commitment, and dedication to increasing awareness of IPIC along with the value and future, of the IP profession in Canada. IPIC’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Tamara Winegust is this year’s recipient of the Institute’s Roger T. Hughes Future Leader Award.

Patent and Trademark Institute Education Foundation is a registered charity managed by IPIC that awards prizes to the candidates who obtain the highest marks in the patent and trademark agent exams.

The Roger T. The individual will have demonstrated significant leadership, commitment, and dedication to increasing awareness of IPIC along with the value and future, of the IP profession in Canada. IPIC’s Board of Directors is pleased to announce that Meika Ellis is the first recipient of the Institute’s Roger T. Hughes Future Leader Award. Meika received the award on October 14 for having made significant contributions to IPIC’s Indigenous IP Committee.
