Trademark Legal Assistant/Clerk/Administrator

KMB Law is seeking a Trademark Legal Assistant/Clerk/Administrator with a minimum of 3 - 5 years of experience. The successful candidate will be organized, detail-oriented and able to demonstrate strong communication skills along with the professionalism to join our team.

Position Overview:
The Trademark Legal Assistant/Clerk/Administrator will work with the Partner and associates to assist with domestic and international trademark files for our various KMB Law clients. The position also involves providing general legal assistant services.
This position is located at our Toronto office and is hybrid. The hours of work are 9am. -5pm., full-time regular office hours, however the successful candidate may be required to work outside of normal business hours to meet business and client needs.
Responsibilities include, among others:
- Assisting with all aspects of the trademark process including application preparation, filing, prosecution, registration, renewal, and management of trademark portfolios
- Draft basic office action reports and responses to technical objections, including goods and services recommendations
- Draft assignments and other title recordals, as well as address changes
- Classification of goods and services
- Review client instructions and take appropriate action with the direction of the professional
- Initial client intake and providing cost estimates
- Legal assistant services, including billing, conflict checks, file openings, expense reports and booking meetings
Qualifications:
- Legal Assistant Diploma/Certificate or Law Clerk Degree
- Certified Canadian Trademark Administrator designation would be an asset
- Three to five years’ proven experience working in the trademark field
- Experience with IP docketing software; knowledge of ALT Legal is an asset
- Excellent attention to detail and work product presentation, including proofreading and editing skills
- Previous experience working in a law firm or professional services environment
- Strong working knowledge of legal software and standard MS Office software (Word, Excel); familiarity with ProLaw is an asset
- Flexibility to work with changing priorities
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment
- Solid time management skills, able to work on assignments from multiple professionals
- Ability to work independently, take instruction effectively, be proactive and apply problem-solving skills
- High level of professionalism, integrity and client service
