Practice before the Patent Appeal Board is potentially becoming more relevant to Canadian patent practitioners and more important to achieving the goals of clients. A number of factors have contributed to this trend in recent years, including the December 2013 changes to Canadian Final Action practice as well as the adoption of new principles by the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) regarding how to determine whether claimed subject matter is statutory.

In this webinar, an experienced practitioner and a member of the Patent Appeal Board will discuss tips and best practices for making effective use of the appeal process. In particular, this webinar will address procedural aspects relevant to Patent Appeal Board practice, beginning from receipt of a Final Action to the conclusion of a hearing before the Patent Appeal Board, as well as a discussion of what to expect at a Patent Appeal Board hearing, and tips for effectively presenting a client’s case.
