ABOUT US
Brunet & Co. is a Canadian intellectual property firm that files patents and trademarks with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office for Canadian and international corporations. We utilize our expertise in a range of technical fields to help domestic and foreign clients successfully secure patent and trademark rights in Canada. We also collaborate closely with international IP firms to secure rights for our clients abroad. We focus on aligning the client’s IP protection with its business strategy to build high value IP portfolios. We have a professional and committed staff who work remotely within a mutually supportive team.

THE ROLE
We are seeking a seasoned registered Canadian patent agent to assume a self-directed role focused on patent preparation, prosecution and client advisory services for domestic and international clients. We are open to applications from agents having a variety of technical backgrounds, with well-roundedness being preferred over extreme specialization. The role offers a variety of different daily work experiences and can be performed remotely from a home office. Of paramount importance is English language communication, conscientiousness, attention to detail, and understanding of the importance of deadlines.

Some of the responsibilities of this role include the following:

  • Preparing and prosecuting patent applications before CIPO, USPTO, and WIPO.
  • Instructing foreign associate responses to Office Actions.
  • Corresponding with clients, foreign associates, and patent offices.
  • Demonstrated experience building and maintaining successful client relationships.
  • Attending client meetings and invention disclosure sessions to identify points of potential patentability.
  • Performing patentability searches and preparing patentability opinions.
  • Drafting patent applications for foreign and domestic filings.
  • Reviewing work completed by administrative staff prior to submission to the CIPO.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Must have Class 1 CPATA license.
  • Successful completion of an undergraduate or preferably, a graduate degree in engineering, computer science, chemistry or another scientific discipline.
  • Minimum of five years relevant experience in patent drafting and prosecution in a Canadian IP firm or in a corporate (in-house) IP group.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to structure information clearly, concisely, and logically.
  • Excellent time management skills.
  • High level of motivation and commitment.
  • Ability to work both independently and as part of a team and foster positive client and colleague relationships.

 COMPENSTATION
$120,000-200,000+ being a combination of salary and performance based bonus.
