Get Ready for IPIC2024 St. John's!

Published on August 2, 2024

The Conference Committee is excited to be putting the finishing touches on the planning for this year’s Annual Conference, being held from September 25-27 in beautiful St. John’s Newfoundland, one of the oldest and most easterly cities in North America.

This year’s programme features over fifteen hours of continuing education.  This includes timely and informative panels on a wide range of intellectual property issues, including the patentability of computer-implemented inventions, anti-counterfeiting, copyright issues and AI, an update on remedies, and legal risks associated with social media.  In addition, the conference will feature the annual Trademarks Office and Patent Office Practice and College of Patent Agents and Trademark Agents updates, as well as a discussion of the top IP cases of the year.

Following up on the successful introduction last year of optional workshops on the first day, this year’s conference will also have workshops on Termination and Renewal Rights in License Agreements and Preparing Your Expert Witness for Cross-Examination.  These practical sessions include hands-on drafting exercises for the licensing workshop and a mock interview with an expert witness and a mock cross-examination of your own expert for the expert witness workshop.

Other events include the always popular fireside chat with Federal Court Judges, and this year’s conference features The Honourable Richard F. Southcott and Associate Judge L.E. Trent Horne.

Registration and hotel reservations are now open and early bird registration is available until August 23, 2024.  There are also reduced registration fees for some categories such as students, first-time in-house corporate attendees, and in-house attendees, as well as a livestream option for plenary sessions.
