Canadian Trademark Administrator Certification Examination

 The examination and certification are administered by the Intellectual Property Institute of Canada.

Purpose of the examination

The examination serves to qualify trademark administrators seeking the professional designation of Certified Canadian Trademark Administrator.

Eligibility to sit for the examination

Candidates who have completed the IPIC Trademark Administrator Program and paid the exam registration fee are eligible to sit for the exam.

Candidates must have obtained an attestation of course completion for all 4 courses in the Program and must be able to supply a copy of such attestations upon request.

Examination conditions

The exam will be administered online, in multiple choice question format, within a strict time period. 

The exam tests a candidate’s knowledge of the foundations, regulations, procedures and best practices pertaining to the administration of trademarks.

Use of the Trademark Administrator Program study materials, the Trademarks Regulations and the Trademarks Act during the exam is permitted.

The pass rate for the exam is 80%.

Examination rules

Candidates must have access to a computer in a closed environment and be seated alone.

It is not permitted to rely on assistance from others during the exam.

It is not permitted to help others during the exam.

The exam questions and answers are confidential. It is not permitted to copy, print or share exam questions and answers with anyone, at any time.

Candidates who are found to have cheated will have their exam results disqualified.

Candidates will be required to confirm their agreement with the exam rules prior to the start of the exam.

Authentication of identity of the exam candidate

The identity of the test taker will be verified prior to the start of the exam. Upon failure to authenticate identity at the time of the examination, a candidate will be disqualified.

Examination results

Candidates will receive the results of their examination in the weeks following the exam.

CERTIFICATION

Candidates who successfully obtain a score of at least 80% are eligible for the designation of Certified Canadian Trademark Administrator.

Maintenance of certification

In lieu of continuing education requirements, a CCTA must hold a valid IPIC membership to maintain the designation.

Registering for the examination

Exam Date: April 22, 2020 / 12 pm – 2 pm (ET)

Registration Deadline: April 20, 2020

The Exam fee of $99 (plus applicable taxes) can only be paid by credit card.

In all cases, payment must be received by Tuesday, April 21, 2020 at the latest.

Failure to pay the registration fee will prevent a candidate from sitting for the exam.

Registered candidates will receive exam instructions by email the day prior to the exam.
