College of Patent Agents and Trademark Agents – Regulations

Held on Tuesday, July 13, 2021, 1 pm - 2:30 pm ET

** COMPLIMENTARY REGISTRATION FOR IPIC MEMBERS **

IPIC leadership and volunteers from our Professional Regulation, Patent, and Trademarks Committees have been working closely with Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED) policy officials to make some significant changes to the draft College Regulations that were published by ISED in March of 2021. The amendments being sought by IPIC were as a result of the excellent feedback we received from our members about the impact the draft regulations could have on their practice.

Last week, the Treasury Board of Canada Secretariat approved the publication of the final CPATA regulations in Canada Gazette Part II for June 23, 2021. On the same day an Order in Council was passed to set a coming into force date of June 28th, 2021 for the College.

Understanding that many members will likely have questions about the CPATA regulations, the Ministerial Code of Conduct Regulation, and the consequential amendments to the Patent Rules and the Trademarks Regulations, IPIC is offering a free webinar for all members on Tuesday July 13 from 1:00pm to 2:30pm ET.

The webinar will be presented by IPIC President Stephanie Chong, the CEO/Registrar of CPATA Darrel Pink, and IPIC Patent Committee Practice Lead, Jenna Wilson and will be an excellent opportunity to hear about the regulations and its implementation by the College, as well as ask any questions you may have about the impacts of the new system on yourself as an agent, or your practice.
