IPIC requests CIPO extend deadlines following transition to NGP and MyCIPO Patents Portal

In a recent webinars, CIPO has updated the timelines for decommissioning the existing National Entry Request (NER) online submission tool for filing national phase entry requests. The last day the NER tool will be available is July 2, 2024 rather than July 4, 2024, as previously reported.

IPIC has contacted CIPO requesting the extension of due dates between July 5 and July 12, 2024, due to the unavailability of patent data during the transition to the Next Generation Patents system (NGP) and the MyCIPO Patents portal. This changeover, part of CIPO's significant upgrade to improve user experience, involves decommissioning the existing TechSource and migrating its data. During this period, neither the public nor CIPO personnel will have access to current status information on Canadian patents and patent applications, creating a critical gap in the system.
