IPIC Comments on Intellectual Property Law Issues for Canada-China Trade Consultations
IPIC's Position
To prepare this submission, we asked our members to provide observations on some of the current intellectual property challenges faced by Canadian entities engaging with China. We have heard from our members, and based on their comments and anecdotal observations about their clients’ experiences, two general themes emerged, namely improvements that can be made to China’s substantive legal regime, and changes related to enforcement that will increase the effectiveness of existing laws. IPIC would welcome the opportunity to consult with GAC in more detail to provide specific examples or further research on any or all of these topics.
