Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) Submission responding to Consultation on MOPOP update relating to patentable subject-matter

The Intellectual Property Institute of Canada (IPIC) has submitted comments to the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO) on the draft MOPOP update governing patentable subject‑matter. IPIC welcomes the overhaul but urges longer consultations, comprehensive first examiner reports, flexible withdrawal of flawed actions, deletion of unsupported restrictions (e.g., signal/energy bans, negative eligibility tests, special AI‑disclosure demands), and richer examples that reflect varied claim language, computer‑specific problem solving, user‑interface advances, and modern diagnostics and biotech processes.
