Bill C-32, An Act to Amend the Copyright Act (a.k.a. Copyright Modernization Act)

The bill sought to modernize the Copyright Act to address current usage of technology and to create a balance of rights between creators and users of copyrighted materials.

IPIC's Position

IPIC made two submissions on this topic: one dealt with technical issues and the other with policy. IPIC made a number of very detailed technical recommendations in order to improve the strength of the legislative writing and reduce unintended consequences. The policy submission commented on policy implications of technical difficulties observed by the committee.
