Patent Lawyer or Agent
PATENT LAWYER OR AGENT
Norton Rose Fulbright is looking to add a qualified and experienced patent lawyer or agent to our Vancouver office. The ideal candidate will have established patent prosecution capabilities, and either trademark prosecution or IP licencing capabilities would be a significant asset. The successful candidate will also be highly motivated, have excellent academic credentials, and experience working in a team setting.
Our global intellectual property team of 250 lawyers, patent attorneys and trademark agents across five continents, has extensive experience providing comprehensive, multidisciplinary IP law services to clients worldwide.
By identifying, protecting and exploiting intellectual property rights at each stage of the innovation lifecycle, our international team of lawyers provides strategic advice spanning all aspects of IP law. Our lawyers, with the assistance of our network of offices and foreign associates, can prosecute patents, trademarks and designs internationally, and we have substantial experience litigating all classes of IP in many different courts and tribunals worldwide. Our services also include international IP protection and portfolio management and advising on commercializing IP assets, including commercial transactions relating to the acquisition and development of innovative products and services.
We have particular experience across our key industry sectors: financial institutions; energy; infrastructure, mining and commodities; transport; technology and innovation; and life sciences and healthcare. Many of our IP lawyers and patent and trademark agents have advanced scientific degrees to complement their practical experience, combining deep industry and technical knowledge with broad legal understanding.
Locally, our Vancouver intellectual property team of 6 lawyers and one technical advisor manage the IP needs of multinational and local clients across numerous industries, including technology, software and video games, alcoholic beverages, life sciences, luxury goods, consumer products, traditional and e-commerce retailers, public authorities and regulatory bodies, financial services, natural resources, and many others.
Our prosecution practice encompasses all areas of intellectual property law, including patents, trademarks, designs, copyrights and trade secrets. Our lawyers routinely work with innovative
companies on strategic patent portfolio development in the mechanical, electrical, electronic and
computer-related fields, and with brand owners on protecting and maintaining their trademarks.
Our lawyers and agents assist clients with the preparation and prosecution of Canadian and
foreign patent and design applications, providing patentability, validity and freedom to operate
searches and opinions, and patent portfolio management. We also assist clients with preparing
and prosecuting Canadian and foreign trademark applications, trademark clearance searches,
registrability opinions, and opposition proceedings.
Our team’s litigation practice focuses on enforcement and disputes, including trademark actions
and appeals from the Trademarks Opposition Board, patent infringement and ownership
disputes, software disputes, copyright and industrial designs, parallel imports (grey marketing),
and all manner of issues relating to the Internet.
In addition, our lawyers provide advice on the enforcement of and defense against claims of
infringement of intellectual property rights, conduct IP due diligence in the context of proposed
mergers and acquisitions for both acquiring entities and those being acquired, and negotiate and
draft technology transfer agreements, development agreements, collaboration agreements,
license agreements and other technology-related agreements.
