Consultation by government

2016 Consultation by ISED and CIPO

Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada (ISED), in conjunction with the Canadian Intellectual Property Office (CIPO), held a consultation with a view to updating the regulatory framework for the patent and trademark agent profession. This consultation was built upon the "Modernizing the IP Community" consultation that was conducted by CIPO in 2013–2014, as well as legislation put in place last year.

The consultation had two parts:

  1. Draft Code of Conduct, with a deadline of June 13, 2016 (extended to August 31, 2016)
  2. Governance Model and Disciplinary Process with a deadline of July 29, 2016 (extented to August 31, 2016)

IPIC Council welcomes this consultation and views it as an important step towards a modern governance framework that will allow the profession to maintain its excellence and protect the public interest.
